The Silent Years

The Silent Years Are Over is an illustration project documenting Michelle’s grandmother’s perseverance through one of the most heinous crimes in modern history, the Holocaust. Edith Klein was deported at the age of 18 from Hungary to the Nazi death camp, Auschwitz. The name for this project came from a letter Michelle’s grandmother wrote in 1970 when she was finally ready to speak to the family about her experience. The letter began, “My dear children, now that the silent years are over, I am ready to talk...”
